CAFNR FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES LAND PURCHASE TO FURTHER COTTON PRODUCTION RESEARCH AT THE FISHER DELTA RESEARCH CENTER
COLUMBIA, Mo. –
The College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) Foundation has partnered with MU’s Fisher Delta Research Center to expand the Center’s cotton production. The CAFNR Foundation purchased a tract of land in Dunklin County, Missouri solely to allow the Delta Center to significantly broaden its cotton research endeavors.
Robin Wenneker, President of the CAFNR Foundation said “The CAFNR Foundation is proud to be able to support research efforts within the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources and their research centers. Being a private foundation we have the agility to negotiate complicated land deals.”
“The research we do on this land will specifically support all the farmers, businesses and landowners in the area.” Delta Research Center Director Trent Haggard said. Haggard said. “We are very appreciative of the CAFNR Foundation’s willingness to partner, donate and facilitate this special land purchase.”
“We’ve seen a remarkable outpouring of support for this mission,” said John Raines, advisory board member. “The farm’s focus will be to find new innovative ways to strengthen Bootheel cotton production, all area rotational crops and support our area producers and the overall ag community. An investment in this farm, and research, is an investment in the necessary infrastructure to keep cotton, and Bootheel agriculture, thriving for years to come.”
The Fisher Delta Research Center is one of the University of Missouri’s comprehensive agricultural research centers that provides real-time data to help sustain and improve agriculture in Missouri and beyond. The Delta Center is an integral part of MU’s Variety Testing Program. Each year this program tests more than 600 cotton, corn, grain sorghum and soybean varieties at 32 locations throughout Missouri.
The mission of The CAFNR Foundation is to promote and further agricultural education and research in the State of Missouri and to collaborate with the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) to accomplish goals of the College. The Foundation is a separate and standalone entity allowing it to enter into a variety of projects with the intent of expanding the reach of CAFNR in the State of Missouri and beyond.
